§ 2-2. Composition and terms of office of council.

  • Pursuant to the provisions of the Code of Alabama, the city council shall consist of a mayor and six (6) council persons. The mayor shall be elected from the city at large by the qualified electors of the city at general municipal elections. One (1) council person shall be elected from each of the six (6) districts of the city by the qualified electors within that district at general municipal elections. Each council person must be a resident of the district from which he or she is elected. Such offices elected at such general municipal elections shall commence their terms of office on the first Monday in October following their election and serve for four (4) year terms, or until their successors are lawfully chosen and installed in office.
